Schizophrenia is divided into paranoid, disorganized and catatonic subtypes, based on presentation of behaviors and predominance of various symptom clusters.
Paranoid schizophrenia, also called schizophrenia, paranoid type is a sub-type and it is the most common form of schizophrenia. The patient has false beliefs that somebody or some people are plotting against them or members of their family.
Paranoid was used to identify the type of schizophrenia in which delusion of any kind predominated. It is characterized by the following features:
*Delusions of persecution
*Delusions of jealousy
*Delusion of grandiosity
*Hallucinatory
*Disturbance of effect
The paranoid schizophrenia is thought to have a good outcome relative to other types. This may reflect a more benign from of illness or unique neurobiology and etiology.
